Giving Thanksgiving home cooks a break

Thanksgiving Day eve stands as one of the top five sales days for Pizza Hut, so the brand is stealing a bit of Black Friday’s thunder with its own “Red Roof Wednesday” promotion in social media.

The company expects to sell more than 1.2 million pies on Wednesday, giving Thanksgiving Day home cooks a chance to focus their energies on the impending feast. The other four top busiest days for the pizza orders, a company spokeswoman said, are, in no particular order: Halloween, New Year’s Eve, Super Bowl Sunday and Valentine’s Day.

“The night before Thanksgiving is one of our five busiest days of the year at Pizza Hut,” said Doug Terfehr, Pizza Hut’s director of public relations, Pizza Hut. “We've coined it Red Roof Wednesday because more pizzas will leave our kitchens than any other restaurant in America.”

To raise the red roof off the push, Pizza Hut plans to give away 100 of its new Three-Cheese Stuffed Crust Pizzas via Twitter. To participate, the company said participants should tweet @PizzaHut, use the hashtag #RedRoofWed and explain why their family chef deserves a pizza.

The company said 100 entries will be picked at random to receive a coupon code.

Plano, Texas-based
Pizza Hut, a subsidiary of Yum! Brands Inc., has more than 14,000 restaurants in more than 100 nations.
