How 21 restaurant companies performed in their latest quarters

The latest financial quarter saw restaurant companies struggle a bit. Same-store sales across the board were generally up a small percentage, but those increases were attributed to things like menu price increases that have taken hold throughout the past year. Traffic, broadly, was down 3.5%-4% across the industry.

There were some bright spots. Chipotle, Texas Roadhouse, Kura Sushi, and CAVA all had higher-than-average traffic increases, and CAVA continued to show nearly 50% revenue increases. Jack in the Box is seeing units in new markets outperform expectations, and at Shake Shack, labor-saving kiosks now account for more than half of all in-store orders.

Elsewhere, companies like Red Robin and Brinker are seeing changes to their numbers due to a waning emphasis on virtual brands. McDonald’s shared its plans for unit types going forward, and Domino’s executives expressed optimism.
